Ottery St Mary will be holding its Festive Cheer event this year on Friday November 24th. As well as the traditional late-night shopping there will also be entertainment before the official light switch on by the Carnival Royalty.
The event starts in the Town Square at 4pm with a Traction engine. The La La Choir will be singing in front of the Church at 5.45pm followed by a torchlight procession to the Council Offices at 6.15pm.
The lights will be switched on by the Carnival Royality at approximately 6.30pm with dancing by the Jo Wilson Dance Group. From 6.45pm the Ottery St Mary Silver Band will continue to entertain the crowds with Christmas tunes.
As well as the great entertainment there will be a Christmas Market within the Church Grounds and within the library. It is also a chance to visit St Marys Church Tree Festival inside the church to see all the wonderfully decorated Christmas trees.
Abbotts will be hosting a free Santa’s Grotto in their shop for the kids and offering the grown-ups drinks and nibbles. Roberts will be offering a lucky dip to see how much of discount you get on the night’s purchases.
The Coffee Bank will be having a meet and greet with The Frozen Trio, while Rabbit & Co will be having a prize draw to win a cheese hamper. Gilbert Stephens Solicitors, Coleridge Pre School, Redferns, Ottery Travel and The Sewing Room will be open late and all plan to offer drinks and nibbles to their customers.
Look out for the Christmas Jumper competition that is running in the town from November 20th to December 20th. This involves visiting sixteen shops in Ottery, finding the letter on their Christmas Jumper, which could be in the window or in the shop and solving the anagram. The entry form will be available from the shops taking part. The lucky winner will receive a £20 voucher to be spent at the Curious Otter Bookshop.
Several shops will be offering Christmas Specials including the Curious Otter bookshop and the Devon Eco Bootique, with the Georgian House offering up to 75% off selection decorations.
The Ottery Museum have a children’s quiz with candy cane mice prizes and Hospice Care have a Christmas bazaar selling gifts along with a soft toy tombola.
Finally, the Ottery Larder will also be open and having an Open Evening for people to come and see them and talk about the great work they do.
We look forward to seeing you.
