Biography
My grandparents lived in Ottery and so I have been visiting since I was born, I moved here as a child and went to both Ottery Primary School and The King’s School. I am happily married, and we have two fabulous children, all of us went to The Kings School and consider Ottery our home. Where else would you have screaming pixies, a wealth of community minded residents, a host of independent businesses, our very own Ottery Veterans, and the world-famous Tar Barrels.

I work as an Art Administrator which is based between Kennaway House in Sidmouth and working from home.

In 2019 I was asked by various people if I would consider standing as a Councillor, I like to think I’m approachable and listen, which I feel are very important life skills, especially when you are a Councillor. I wanted to make a difference for the area that I live in and be a voice to represent everyone. I stood for Town and District Council in 2019 and was surprised but honoured to be elected to both.

The infrastructure of Ottery is at breaking point with a 25% increase in the population but the infrastructure staying the same. The lack of resources including banking, youth provision, transport and various other issues are demanding and sadly lacking, although that is something we are trying to change.

Before Covid had really hit I attended a meeting alongside a couple of other Town councillors and various other representatives from various professions. To be honest we all expected to be advised a ‘terrible cold was on its ways but not to panic, we left the meeting realising that wasn’t the case at all and knowing that many of our vulnerable residents would be left fending for themselves. Myself, Dean & Stewart set up the Ottery Community Volunteers outside the council as anyone who has ever sat on a council knows the wheels turn slowly and we didn’t feel we had the time to wait. Alongside various other extraordinarily helpful volunteers we managed to ensure that no one was left to fend for themselves, this included food shopping, prescription collections and so much more.

Off the back of the Volunteers sprouted the Community Larder another invaluable project I am delighted to be a small part of, again it is run by wonderful volunteers. The aim is to stop resources being thrown away and to distribute them to all, with no exceptions.

I felt so honoured to have been chosen and to be the first female Mayor of Ottery. There are so many highlights during my term in office, but I would have to say organising the Queens Jubilee procession through the Town to the Millenium Green ranks highly. This attracted loads of visitors to the town, and I was delighted to light the Beacon at the Millenium Green alongside one of our Veterans Ash Franks. I was also honoured to give a speech on behalf of the town at the Church for both the passing of Prince Phillip and the Queen. There were also many fun opportunities like awarding prizes at various functions and seeing how talented the people of Ottery are.

There are many projects I wish to follow during my current term as Councillor, I would like to see a Banking Hub in Ottery to help both businesses and residents alike. As well as more joined up thinking and working together at all council levels.
